Cone Beaker – a type of glass discovered in abundance across various locations in Scandinavia. Similar forms have also been unearthed in regions now known as Russia, the Baltic states, Slavic territories, and Germany. One notable site where cone beakers were found in large quantities is Birka, a key hub of the Viking Age. Birka was a center of trade and craftsmanship, reflecting its cultural and economic importance.
It is speculated that this glass was used primarily in its simplest form: once emptied, it might have been turned upside down to rest on a table. Alternatively, some suggest it may have served as an oil lamp. One thing is certain, however – the metal base often seen today was never part of the original design and is a modern addition to enhance usability.
The blue rim and decorative patterns on this reproduction are directly inspired by findings from Birka, ensuring historical accuracy and authenticity.
A timeless piece and a highly appreciated gift, perfect for anyone with a passion for history and unique craftsmanship.
