Grötlingsbo Flute zigzag decor 5th century

This elegant flute glass, discovered near Eketorp Fortress on the island of Öland, is a rare and remarkable piece dated to the 5th-6th centuries. Its zigzag motif, a design commonly seen on ceramics but seldom on glass, makes it an exceptional find that stands out among early medieval artifacts.

The glass features a sturdy foot and a slender, flaring body that opens gracefully at the rim, showcasing the skill of its original artisan. With its well-preserved condition, this piece provides a unique glimpse into the craftsmanship of its time. Reference photos are available, allowing collectors to admire the glass’s fine details and its connection to Öland’s rich history.
